In keeping with my last post, here is another fantastic charitable event that you may be interested in. I don't know about you but I have a box full of outgrown mitts and hats that could go to help those less fortunate than ourselves. What a worthy cause!

Giving Back During the Holidays

The Holiday Season is fast approaching! Amidst the constant demands to buy, buy and buy some more, I think it's important to take time during this busy time of year to give back to our community. Every year, I try to find at least one or two ways to volunteer my time and this year, my neighbour suggested that we go together and volunteer for the Annual Gift Basket Drive for Women's Shelters.

On Thursday morning, we arrived at 580 Evans Avenue and helped to assemble baskets full of toiletries and gift items. The Annual Gift Basket Drive for Women’s Shelters delivers gift baskets during the holiday season to women in crisis in shelters and other organisations throughout Etobicoke, Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Scarborough, East York and North York. The gift baskets are created by volunteers and the items in the baskets are donated by individuals and businesses in the community. The 2009 drive created just over 2400 baskets. This means over 2400 women in need received something over the holidays.

The room was full of boxes and boxes of items donated by businesses and individuals. And so many women showed up to assemble these baskets. It was fun and moving and I left there feeling like I'd done a little something to contribute to making the holidays a little brighter for someone in our community.

They are still assembling baskets throughout the weekend. Please click on the link to find more details about how you can help:
