Happy New Year!!!!

R.I.P. Kenneth Mark

A Toronto man shot dead by two assailants in the city's west end Tuesday night was almost certainly executed for his anti-gang activism, police say.
Kenneth Mark, 29, was known in the community for chasing away gang members trying to recruit youth and had been shot in the neck with a pellet gun 18 months ago for his efforts, his family said Wednesday.
Mark was on his way to work Tuesday night at about 9:45 when he stopped into a pizza parlour on Dundas Street near Runnymede Road, in the Junction neighbourhood. He left the pizzeria to head to the Wal-Mart outlet where he was a night manager, and put on headphones to listen to music while he walked, police said.
Here is a new Facebook group created in memory of Kenneth Mark, please feel free to leave your thoughts and condolences to Kenneth's family: R.I.P KENNETH MARK "THE GENTLE GIANT AND HERO."
Do you have a fruit tree to share?

I know this is a bit early in the year to think about harvesting your fruit trees but this is such an amazing idea! Your next year's harvest may benefit a local food bank or a shelter!

Another murder in our "safe" neighbourhood
By Rebecca Ryall, National Post
Just two days before 2009 ends, Toronto witnesses its 62nd homicide of the year.
Gunshots drew police to the Junction late last night, where they found a 29-year-old man shot in the head.
The victim, now identified as Kenneth Mark, was lying in the roadway of Gilmour Avenue, just north of Dundas Street West. Paramedics performed CPR for 20 minutes before taking him to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Mr. Mark later died.

Daddy's Digital Media, a brand new and unique Junction-based small business
In his wife's own words:
Like many expectant fathers, the first item my husband Charlie purchased when we found out we were pregnant, was a video camera. This was in his mind the most important parenting tool around. I was not so sure that it needed to be number one on the list but I will say that I'm happy he got one. That camera has caught everything and I mean everything, from crib assembly to babymoon holiday to that first essential cry the day our daughter was born. And in the two and a half years since it came home, it is never far from the action. We have hours, no days of video captured on tapes, discs and on our hard-drives. Monumental amounts of sweet memories; smiles, songs, sunny afternoons and quiet story moments. Now if only we had the time to sort it; time is a very precious commodity around here, perhaps the most precious. I'd wager a hefty portion of our mortgage payment that most parents would do just about anything for a little extra time. Full article HERE
