Does your Catholic school support gay rights?

Recent news about Mississauga's, St.Joseph Catholic Secondary School banning rainbows at an anti-homophobia event, which was hosted by the students and generally not allowing any official LGBT groups at its' school, has frankly made me angry!  If a publicly-funded institution discriminates against federally protected human rights, the said institution should no longer be publicly funded!

If you are a home-owner and paying property taxes, please choose to support public schools in your area over Catholic schools! By publicly funding these religious organizations, we empower them to discriminate against our children!

How would you feel if your Catholic school discriminated against its' gay/lesbian students? Would you do anything about it?

There is so much to debate about faith-based education, but I agree that our curious system of publicly funded Catholic schools makes no sense. Public schools should be secular, and of course, obey the laws of the land. The debacle about GSAs in Halton is but one example of why this system doesn't work. Besides what gay students must suffer, gay teachers in the Catholic system can't be out, which flies in the face of our charter rights.
