Starbucks is coming to the Junction

image-Junctioneer

Apparently this is old news, many local businesses have known about Starbucks moving into our neighbourhood for a while... The old Handyman Shop that's been renovated for the past few months is going to be a new Starbucks location, directly across the street from Crema!!!! The Junction already has so many wonderful coffee places, we don't need a Starbucks!

Sigh. I know that Starbucks is a successful and popular coffee retailer, and maintains a clean and well-kept store, but really, does the Junction need this chain?

I'm maintaining my loyalty to The Good Neighbour and Agora Cafe.

That should be the new home of the Troubadour, not another bloody Starbucks.

Be open to the idea that the neighberhood is changing...a Starbuck's opening doesn't mean you're losing your identity. Don't buy from them, that's fine, you don't have to but don't blame Starbuck's if they're successful because your neighbours are making them so.

Anyone know what else is going into that building being renovated?

@pomophobe There are going to be 4 2-level residential units as well as the office for the realtor who owns the building.

Sun newspaper article said it's just a rumour for now. I personally think that it would be great for the neighbourhood. If you don't want to go, just continue to support the local shops. It's definitely not an offensive franchise by any means. Would help clean up the strip of vacant/run-down retailers and would it be all bad to bid adieu to the "happy ending" sunshine massage parlour across the street as things continue to clean up in that area? Crema turfing the money mart was a great step and those big moves need to continue in order for the junction to really thrive.

I think this is good news for a number of reasons, many of which have been already stated (surely it's better than boarded-up vacant storefronts, no?)

I'm a Crema fan, and studies have shown that small coffee shops generally do BETTER as a result of a Starbucks moving in.
